About Copia

-
..Copia, is the social reading platform.

To try to make this vision real, Copia’s platform has three parts:
  • social-networking website, where you connect with friends and other readers of the same books to discuss what you’re reading, share recommendations and ratings. To make connecting a little easier, you can sign in with a Facebook account, or create a separate Copia account. Once you’re in, Copia can connect with LinkedIn and Twitter, too.
  • desktop e-reading client for Mac and PC where you can buy books through the Copia store (EPUB with Adobe DRM, so you’ll need an Adobe account) and read those books on your desktop or laptop. You can also read PDFs or DRM-free EPUB files in the client.
  • An iPad app that like the desktop, includes both your e-book library and the store.

You can check a person's vital signs — pulse, respiration and blood pressure — manually or by attaching sensors to the body. But a student in the Harvard-MIT Health Sciences and Technology program is working on a system that could measure these health indicators just by putting a person in front of a low-cost camera such as a laptop computer's built-in webcam.

Smart, responsive and elegant, the Copenhagen Wheel is a new emblem for urban mobility. It transforms ordinary bicycles quickly into hybrid e-bikes that also function as mobile sensing units. The Copenhagen Wheel allows you to capture the energy dissipated while cycling and braking and save it for when you need a bit of a boost. It also maps pollution levels, traffic congestion, and road conditions in real-time.

Mozilla Seabird: A Community-driven Mobile Phone Concept

The Mozilla Seabird, part of the Mozilla Labs’ Concept Series, is an experiment in how users might interact with their mobile content as devices and technology advances. Drawing on insights culled from the Mozilla community through the project’s blog, a focus quickly developed around frustrating physical interactions.

While mobile CPUs, connectivity and development platforms begin approaching that of desktops, the lagging ability to efficiently input information has grown ever more pronounced.

Canadian Tourism has launched a new campaign aiming to grab interest from busy Americans in the hope to lure them up to Canada for a holiday. And to do this they’ve jumped on the twitter wagon with interesting digital storescapes or what they are calling live twitter murals, that show aggregated tweets and photos from selected search terms on twitter, the tweets are pulled live to large screens in prominent locations in New York, Chicago and L.A.
Passers by can interact with the content that is being tweeted by flicking through tweets and enlarging images on the fly through seriously big touch screens.

Unilever's Smile Ice Cream Vending Machine

At Cannes 2010

The vending machine has an interesting feature, it comes with a facial recognition that detects your gender, age, mood and even how much you are smiling! Called the "Share Happy" machine, it's sole purpose at Cannes was to deliver free ice cream to those who were smiling. Detected through the "Smile-O-Meter", the machine would show you how much you were smiling and when you could smile no more it would give you a free ice cream.

But beyond the free ice cream, it's actually pretty exciting to think about what type of products a vending machine with this technology might be able to dynamically sell in the future!
