"Leadership is an actual art"

The connection between leadership and art has been made many times over, usually as a way to single out certain properties of the arts that carry over to leadership. The best leaders and artists give us perspective on our social condition (good or bad) and greater appreciation of our world, ourselves, and our choices. Moreover, they challenge, excite, comfort, and motivate. They bring us closer together by providing a forum for shared experiences and by forging a sense of community. Leadership and art both animate social encounters. They can change our lives in ways that are as invigorating and real as being hit by a wave.

‎22 Nobelists support Greece!
The petition is addressed to Martin Schulz, President of the European Parliament, Herman Van Rompuy, President of the European Council, and Jose Manuel Durao Barroso, President of the EU Commission.

It was sent by Harald Zur Hausen to Science magazine.

"Greece is in the midst of a prolonged and deep economic recession that has already changed dramatically the lives of its citizens and threatens the very existence of its structures necessary for future recovery. To regain its forward momentum, keep alive its competitive institutions, and implement its huge reform agenda, Greece needs our help. We are confident that Greece, which has contributed enormously to European culture, can do what is called for to create a brighter future. To succeed in this difficult task, special emphasis should be given among other things to science and technology, areas in which Greece possesses particularly strong institutions and human potential. By utilizing existing structural funds, and by promoting close cooperation between major European science and technology centers and existing Greek clusters of excellence, Greece can be enabled to sustain its scientific structures, build up its own technological future, and secure a competitive economy in the long run".

See you in Greece...Join us!

You obviously know it by now. You have read the news and you have seen the pictures. Greece is in a deep financial crisis, the most severe since World War II. Yes it's serious and yes it's sad. And for us Greeks it's not just about some images on TV. It's about everyday life.

So what are we going to do about it? Are we going to give up? Are we going to leave? Or are we simply going to play a blame game about bad politicians or irresponsible citizens?
Of course we're not going to do any of the above!
Up Greek Tourism is an initiative created during this crisis. A group of friends got together and believed they could do something to help one of the most important industries in our country through this difficult period. The main idea is to promote Greek Tourism. They managed to pull this off with the help of crowdfunding, today's means of supporting ideas. More than 300 people donated big and small amounts to push this idea forward. The resources thus became available to use the most prestigious advertising space in the heart of New York City. And all this to promote the best part of our country: Our philoxenia = hospitality.

Solve for X <#solveforx>

A forum to encourage and amplify technology-based moonshot thinking and teamwork.

Solve for X is a place to hear and discuss radical technology ideas for solving global problems. Radical in the sense that the solutions could help billions of people. Radical in the sense that the audaciousness of the proposals makes them sound like science fiction. And radical in the sense that there is some real technology breakthrough on the horizon to give us all hope that these ideas could really be brought to life...
